Show Notes

After working and raising two sons, Sharon spent many years working for North Carolina State University’s School of Design Library. That and engaging various volunteer pursuits, including sharing creepy crawlies with visitors of all ages at the North Carolina Science Museum, and working many shifts with the North Carolina Reading Service, a nonprofit wherein volunteers read various publications over the airwaves for visually impaired folks. She even found time to learn juggling in the past few years. Sharon’s life credo, which she has prominently displayed on her Facebook page is, “I take life very seriously. I choose to approach it with large doses of humor and joy.”

And then Sharon made the move to retirement, literally and figuratively. She wound down her career at the University, gave away many of her accumulated possessions, sold her house, and moved to Baltimore to be near one of her sons. In the few months since making the move, she has surprised herself by learning how to use a chop saw and more of the intricacies of pipe organ tuning and repair. All parts of mailing jeeps home one piece at a time. Another credo that Sharon aspires to comes from Kurt Vonnegut: "Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something."

Join us to hear more of Sharon’s latest ventures of living life with large doses of humor and joy.
